What's New?

It's been a minute since I've been on here. I thought I'd catch you up and share. Recently I have been trying to be intentional about reaching out to friends. Making friends and maintaining them as an adult with kid schedules and well life can feel like you are scheduling an appointment. But I am determined to connect. I have decided that I am going to lead a small group at our church this semester. This will be my first time at this church hosting. I plan to have it at my home for ladies. We will enjoy biscuits and jam, fellowship, share prayer needs, I plan to love the mess out of them, and connect. I told you I am determined.

I did our first pop up sale at our home this August and it was super fun. I loved seeing friends and family. We did Biscuits and all the jams. We are planning on doing an event in September with the McKenzie Farm in Fairhope. We also have a booth for The Gulf Coast Fungi Festival in October. So lots of opportunities to come shop and visit us. Emphasis on the VISIT part. Be sure to follow us on FB and stalk us for details.

Peach Pie Jam
Peach Pie Jam

In June and July we jammed a lot. We stocked up on Blueberry Vanilla Bourbon Jam. We have a local organic source with Meadowlark Farm. Next we got some Georgia peaches and visited some old friends. I got to share and teach how to can/preserve peaches and make peach pie jam. I love sharing this knowledge and especially with friends. Next we made a small batch of fig jam. Our local source was killed with this year's snow, so we had to find another one. The next jam is Strawberry Basil. We grow our own basil and restocked the jam. Our next jams will be in November and December. That's when we make Christmas jam and Kumquat Marmalade.

Since we are stocked with jam now we restock our crochet mushrooms. So far I have 15 complete as I write this blog. These cute little mushrooms are happy. I love making them and its a very relaxing process. They are made with 100% cotton. When I have spare time in the truck and my hubby drives me around I work on these. Yes, I love being a princess passenger and my honey loves to drive (That's him in the picture. I love that man so much). I am usually crocheting while watching movies, waiting for kids in the car line, or at practice pick up. Since I am participating in The Gulf Coast Fungi Festival I want to make sure I have a variety of them for this festival. They really are happy and I love seeing people's reaction to them.

I've been working on my pottery this summer also. Pottery is very relaxing to me. I have been making this a priority and scheduling it in my weekly routine. Living life on purpose. If you want to do something, make a plan and just do it. So I wanted to have pieces that I could sell at pop up sales and the festival. I have been making spoon rests that are in the shape of mason jars. A throw back to the turquoise jars. I really love them. My mom was my tester and she knew immediately what is was. So that was perfect. Thanks MOM! I wanted that pottery piece to go with the jam theme. Scoops was next on the list and these are great for bath salts, sugar dish, or coffee/tea scoop. This was one of the first things I made when learning to do pottery. They are simple, practical, and so darn cute.

Black Thumb Flowers
Black Thumb Flowers

A new item I have been making is ceramic flowers. I have been calling them the black thumb flowers for those who can't seem to grow flowers. My weird sense of humor. I added some creepy flowers with eyes in the center also.

My second daughter, Scarlett, inspired those. She is such a fun person to collaborate artsy ideas with. She continues to inspire me. She is much more talented than I am but we can share that "oh yes let's do that" spirit and there is nothing better than having a person to do that with when you are an artist. Those are definitely my kind of people.

I decided this year I would have one ornament for Christmas this year to simplify things. So this year we are doing angel wings. An unexpected surprise was that I had a couple of people buy them for lost loved ones. And you know what that blessed my heart so much and I absolutely love that idea. How special will that be for those receiving them?

I have been experimenting with some jewelry in pottery and some special pendant pieces. I haven't completed my vision of them yet but when I do I will share them with you. Some pieces start out as one thing and become something else entirely.

Blue Copper Maran
Blue Copper Maran

We only hatched once this spring for chickens. We also bought chicks around the same time so they are all the same age. We re-homed our extra roosters and the ones we kept were Blue Copper Marans and one Black Copper Maran. That makes 4 roosters total and all Marans. They all started their teenage crow and it's fun to say "Did you hear that one?" We did not sell many chicks this year. Mainly because we are relocating our chicken coop. We are currently in the middle of preparing to build another coop. In another month of two we will have new layers and I'm excited to see the new colors. I have plans for next spring and when time gets closer I'll share all the fun news. Well it's been fun catching up and sharing all the creative things we have going on with you all. After the Gulf Coast Fungi Festival we will be posting some of the artsy stuff for sale. For now I am stocking up for events. Come stalk us on our Facebook Page. We really do love it when you stalk us.

Love, Sue
